Sofia Alaoui is a Moroccan screenwriter and director. She is listed among Unifrance’s “10 to Watch” as well as ScreenDaily’s “Arab Stars of Tomorrow.” She gained international recognition with her short film So what if the goats die, which won the César Award in 2021 and the Grand Prize at Sundance in 2020. This success enabled her to direct her first feature film, Animalia, which received awards at Sundance and CINEMANIA in 2023. She is currently developing projects in English, notably Far North, produced by Chi-Fou-Mi and So Lab. Her next film, Tarfaya, an Arabic-language project, is in the financing stage, with shooting scheduled for next winter in southern Morocco.
