Biography

A film journalist for twelve years at Studio Magazine, Thierry Klifa moved into directing in 2001 with the short film Émilie est partie, followed by his first feature in 2004, Une vie à t’attendre. He went on to direct Le héros de la famille (2006) and Les yeux de sa mère (2011), three films co-written with Christopher Thompson. In 2017, he helmed the thriller Tout nous sépare, before returning in 2024 with Les rois de la piste, a crime comedy starring Fanny Ardant, Mathieu Kassovitz, and Laetitia Dosch. In parallel, he distinguished himself in theater by adapting and staging Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking with Fanny Ardant (2012), followed by Des journées entières dans les arbres (2014) and Croque-Monsieur (2016). In 2019, he directed for Arte a documentary on one of his favorite filmmakers, André Téchiné: Cinéaste insoumis. His sixth feature, La femme la plus riche du monde, co-written with Cédric Anger and Jacques Fieschi, was presented at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the Official Selection.
