CINEMANIA’s
opinion:
Joana
Hadjithomas
and
Khalil
Joreige
draw
inspiration
from
real
facts
they
experienced
in
Lebanon
as
adolescents
to
develop
this
passionate
tale
on
memory
and
remembrance.
The
couple
of
creative
directors
disseminates
personal
stories
and
archives
through
a
dynamic
montage
blurring
the
boundaries
between
reality
and
fiction.
Without
nostalgia,
they
pay
tribute
to
analogical
photography,
to
polaroid
and
to
super
8
to
reconstitute
a
country
and
a
vanished
epoch.
The
result
is
a
pop
and
joyous
film
about
the
Lebanon
of
yesterday,
and
by
way
of
sub
text,
the
Lebanon
of
tomorrow.
The
whiteness
of
the
Quebecois
winter
carries
on
a
magnificent
dialogue
with
the
light
of
Beirut
while
Memory
Box
celebrates
the
strength
and
resilience
of
three
generations
of
women.
