Belgium
Disaffected, alienated and bored with their daily lives in Belgium, Lucas (Arthur Buyssens), 16, and Bert (Martin Nissen), 18, run away on a rebellious adventure. They don’t get very far on their motor scooter and soon turn to breaking into weekend homes and squatting, drinking from other people’s cellars, eating in their kitchens and sleeping in their beds. Wandering without a goal leads to boredom, and the runaways really start to go wrong. If freedom has a price, total freedom has a much higher cost.
Director Philippe de Pierpont’s two principals provide natural and inspired performances in a road movie that is an ode to male friendship.
